Two drivers were injured and a third driver was uninjured in an accident Monday morning involving two semi tractor-trailers and an Iowa DOT snowplow on Highway 4 near New Cooperative west of Cooper.
The accident occurred at 10:24 am during near white-out weather conditions. According to the Greene County sheriff’s office, a driver of a New Cooperative semi-tractor trailer was southbound on Highway 4 and slowed the rig to turn right into the coop facility. Another semi-tractor trailer hauling hogs was following. The driver didn’t see the co-op truck slow. The hog truck clipped the co-op truck and bounced into the northbound lane, striking a northbound DOT snowplow.
The driver of the hog truck suffered an injury not life-threatening. He was transported to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services. The snowplow driver sustained minor injuries and the driver of the co-op truck was not injured.
The tractor of the hog truck was totaled. Damage to the DOT snowplow was estimated at $15,000 and damage to the New Cooperative semi was estimated at $3,000. The names of the drivers have not been released. Citations are pending.
The Greene County sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Jefferson police department.
